How I started house sitting

The first time I got to house sit was back on Christmas 2014 in New Zealand as I was staying there a couple of months. My job was too look after 3 working dogs and a Jack Russel, taking them for a run around the farm.

How the pandemic has changed my life

Until March 2020, I used to need to go to the office pretty much every day but this is not the case any more and I can work from home full time.

I started traveling around Australia in May 2021 but was missing animals a lot so that’s how I started house/pet sitting again.

Dog care

As a horse behaviourist, I’m also interested in dog education and I’m trying my best to be as consistent with the boundaries for dogs as I am with horses. I was able to witness training lessons for guide dogs and it is really interesting to see how important the trainer attitude is in both situations.

Cat care

Even though cats don’t cope as well with boundaries as dogs, they still need some attention to be healthy. I did volunteer on a cat sanctuary – of about 100 cats – in 2014 when I was in the US and it was really instructive to see the different needs they all had.

Farm animals

House sitting on farm

Considering I was raised in the country, I’ve been used to having cows and other animals around. Whether they’re chooks, sheep, cattle, pigs or goats, farm animals are usually lower maintenance but still need to have their basic needs to be guaranteed. Observing any change in their behavior also gives a lot of information on how they are feeling.

Other animals

I can take care of other animals such as rabbits or guinea pigs. However I don’t do reptiles.

Thanks again for doing such a great job looking after our house and pets!

Maud was an incredible asset to have. We went to Tasi for about eight days and she kindly watched our home and our three dogs. She was incredibly accommodating and even came out a night early to help ease one of our pups who has extreme separation anxiety. Having the peace of mind of knowing Maud was there and up to the task of hanging out with our hellions allowed us to fully relax on our trip. Would highly recommend!

We had Maud come and puppy sit at our house for a week whilst we went on holiday. She was punctual at our first meeting, and kept in regular communication throughout our time away, even sending us regular picture updates. The dogs enjoyed having her company. We found Maud to be a neat and respectful person, who left our house clean and tidy. We have already recommended Maud to family and friends, and we would happily ask her back again.
Thank you Maud ?

Maud was brilliant. She kept the house and yard tidy, our pets well cared for and kept us informed of how things were going while away. Definitely highly recommend her.

Maud was really great with my dogs and knew how to put them at ease. She took them for walks every day and they were the happiest dogs in the world. Thank you again Maud for my doggies.

Maud answered our facebook ad for pet sitting at our home in NZ at short notice. She was accommodating, changing some of her own plans to help us out. She turned up at the time specified and stayed for 7 nights. She took care of our house and Pet dog. We did not need to worry as she communicated with me as needed. We came home to a nice tidy house as we had left it with no trace of her having been here. She also helped out with a few little chores without any issues. Easy, and I would highly recommend that you can rely on Maud.
